What GCSEs should my child choose

What GCSEs should my child choose Choosing GCSE options is never easy, especially as most students will do 8 - 10 GCSEs. This means your child will need to select a range of subjects, some of which will be compulsory, and others which can reflect their interests. Here's what you need to know. How should my child choose their subjects? Choosing the right subjects is a combination of what's compulsory, alongside, what your child's interests are, and also their possible future plans for University. How many GCSEs should my child take? Your child's school should be the guide here, but your child should expect to take around eight to ten subjects. Colleges, universities and most jobs expect at least 5 GCSEs with grades between 9 and 4. Which GCSEs are compulsory? Maths, English and Science are the core subjects everyone must take at GCSE in England. English Literature is also compulsory in most schools. Science will either be split into Biology, Chemistry and Physics or into two combined Science GCSEs. Other schools make a language and RE compulsory too. Your school should be able to give you clear guidelines on what's mandatory and what isn't. Will these GCSE choices affect my child's A-level choices? For specific A-Levels, you will need to have done a GCSE first, but some subjects only become available at A-Level for example; Psychology, so a wide range of GCSEs will be considered as an entry to these subjects. Speak to your school about the link between individual GCSEs and A-Levels. Do universities care what GCSEs I choose? All universities will want you to have good grades in the core subjects, especially maths and English. Other than that most don't mind what subjects you've studied at GCSE. Your A-level choices are more critical, so be sure of what you want to do at A-level is related to your GCSE choices. 4 top tips for students on choosing GCSE options 1. Don't pick a subject because you like a teacher or all your friends are in this class. Options need to be based on what subjects you genuinely like. 2. Try not to write off a subject you currently find hard or confusing as a tutor can help in this area and transform the subject for you. 3. Make sure you are knowledgeable about a subject you haven't yet studied. Talk to other students already on the GCSE course and look online to see what it involves. 4. Don't avoid a subject because it's currently boring in Year 8. The GCSE curriculum will be about areas you haven't yet learnt about, and a subject that seems dull may be transformed into something diverse and exciting. New Planets and New Knowledge

New Planets and New Knowledge pexels.com Also interested in new life is Thomas Zurbuchen, an associate administrator at NASA, who says “you can just imagine how many worlds are out there that have a shot to becoming a habitable ecosystem … Are we alone out there? We’re making a step forward with this a leap forward, in fact towards answering that question.” But really, it isn’t all about alien life. In fact, these planets might not have life whatsoever but we would even learn something from that. One of the big takeaways if alien life isn’t present is what makes planets hospitable and what prevents life. These seven planets were found orbiting Trappist-1, a dwarf star 40 light-years away from us. (For those of you that aren’t sure what a light-year is, that’s over 200 trillion miles away from us.) According to Michael Gillon, an astronomer, “This is the first time so many planets of this kind are found around the same star.” However, Trappist-1 and our sun are quite different, which begs the question: what about the planets orbiting it are different? In comparative terms, our sun would be the size of a basketball and the Trappist-1 star would be the size of a golf ball. Interestingly, in order to determine there were planets orbiting the star, scientists noticed a dimming of light from the star, as if a planet was passing in front of it. They recorded this process meticulously, calculating both the size of the star and the number of planets in its orbit. Apparently, all seven planets are very near the dwarf star, one of which only takes 1.5 days to orbit it. According to Dr. Gillon, “They form a very compact system, the planets being pulled close to each other and very close to the star.” Another interesting observation is that originally, the planets may have been formed much further from the star, pulled in over time by the gravitational pull. So what has everyone so excited over these planets? For one thing, it’s believed that the surfaces are at the proper temperature for water flow, as the star nearest to them is rather cool. If this is the case, the planets might have one of the most essential ingredients for sustaining life. Of course, this is all speculation. But it’s exciting, nonetheless. There are still debates and a lot of questions to be answered, and most of the information we have at this point is speculation. But science has also come a long way; decades ago, we didn’t know much at all about the other planets in the solar system. Now, we have over 3,400 confirmed planets out there. So it only stands to reason that we might not have more answers until a few more decades from now. Apparently, astronomers believe that technological advancements are needed before more planets will be discovered around brighter stars out there. So the fact that they have found these planets is really spectacular  and could be extremely informative as to what else is in the solar system that we aren’t even aware of at this point. And of course, it’s easy to get excited about the potential for alien life, as it’s an interesting (albeit scary) thought that there are extraterrestrial beings out there we didn’t even know existed. And for those of us that aren’t so onboard the alien train, this discovery could bring with it scientific information regarding what it takes for a planet to sustain life and whether or not other planets could potentially be as hospitable as Earth. Again, right now, it’s all speculation grounded in scientific knowledge. But this discovery is still one to pay attention to, even if you aren’t an avid believer in aliens. Science is home to some groundbreaking discoveries that may just shape our future, so pay attention to what’s going on around you. This is big news for many reasons, and might just be the key to understanding what else is out there because if science agrees on anything, it’s that we aren’t alone. There’s plenty more out there to be discovered, just waiting on our technological advancement to reach it. So here’s to the scientific discoveries of the next few decades we can’t wait to learn what you have in store for us.

Here are some of the ways in which the tutor can help them.First, it will be important for the students to identify all the essential detail about the topics that are being discussed. This is because one does not know whether the person is an expert or an amateur in the field of science. It is a well known fact that when the students are asked for the questions that they need to answer, they tend to give many incorrect answers, and this is why they fail to satisfy the experts in the field. So, to avoid this, the students should have a clear idea about the main topics being discussed in the course.Next, the students should be prepared with the required scientific formulas and chemical formulas to be used for the tests so that the results of the tests will be accurate. Apart from assisting the students in answering the questions, the teacher can also prepare the necessary answer or point for the questions. In short, the student will not have to pay much attention to the questions and the tutor will help him study the question properly and get hold of the result. For example, if the students are asked for the answer to the question what happens when you combine two metals, the answer will have to be both of the metal and the total number of times and the answer to the next question must be the same with the previous one. These are few of the methods that the teacher can help the students with. The students should definitely learn that the instructor's help can be the key in making sure that they learn something. So, before hiring any tutor, one should thoroughly check their background and ask them about their credentials and hence, ensure that they do not lie to him.

Chemistry Matter Quiz - Part 2

Chemistry Matter Quiz - Part 2If you've taken the Chemistry Matter Quiz before, you will know that there are two different versions. One of them is in a standard format and the other is the way it is described above. In the former, you have to solve five difficult problems, and then try to understand one more complicated problem (the last one).If you can get past the first problem (which is a word puzzle), you should read the next. Then read the third. Next, read the fourth. The next one should give you a few minutes to figure out the answers to the other ones. If you are struggling with this one, then keep on reading to see if you can still figure it out.The last problem in the set is where you are required to use trigonometry and understand that part. You should also be able to solve the equations for the first three questions. So far, you may think that this is just the first of several problems that you would have to tackle. But you should remember that all these problems are just different methods of getting the same thing done. The same things are all available by different means. In the first scenario, you will have to convert your information into units of some kind before solving the equations, but in the latter, the equations do not need to be solved in this manner. This is why the first of the two difficulties has more information to offer. It allows you to understand that element's properties while the latter is going to have you solve an equation in order to get its properties. Of course, both of these problems will have you using different measurements and mathematical formulas to arrive at the same thing. In the former, the general rules will apply to all quantities and the calculations will not be so difficult, but the latter will only be relevant for a problem with one particular element. When you are studying about nature, you will encounter many different types of materials. Different forms of matter can be found all over the universe. So be sure to learn as much as you can about each. These challenges will help you improve your ability to understand the same kind of material that you see.

What is Absorbance Chemistry?

What is Absorbance Chemistry?Absorbance Chemistry is a science that combines chemical, physical and chemical and physical processes. The main purpose of the absorbent is to hold the water and to retain the heat within the system. The absorbent chemistry was developed in 1832 by A. G. Harris and was later on expanded and upgraded by S. Devitt. The combination of different methods and data resulting in the highest quality hydrometeorological observations in the world. To summarize the absorbent science, it means the formation of solid matter through the interaction of solid and liquid chemicals and solids. In simple terms, absorbent chemistry is the combination of fluid and solid mechanics of thermodynamics. The studies of absorbent science can be characterized as science based on the separation of solid from liquid, both to water and air. For example, in liquid water, the separation of solid molecules from the liquid water occurs at a specific temperature. This is the thermal conductivit y. In contrast, the common type of absorption, referred to as solid-liquid is basically fluid absorption. Absorption is essentially mechanical in nature, wherein it focuses on the dynamics and nonlinearity of both a solute and a solvent, which is the separation of solutes from liquids.Solid-liquid absorption also refers to the solute/solids interactions which includes non-chemical, thermodynamically, and non-thermodynamically driven solvation. The chemical kinetics of the chemical process in the absorbent chemistry can include the decomposition of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. These processes are important in the determination of both ionic and nonsolid state transition energy spectra. This study can be called as the absorption kinetics. The main points to realize in absorbent chemistry is that absorption kinetics are very much dependent on the occurrence of atoms and ions, which need to separate from their surroundings. The properties of an absorbent depends largely on the ra te of dissociation in the reaction. In the biological sciences, scientists study how to isolate energy and chemical waste as part of absorbent chemistry. The chemical kinetics of the absorption can be utilized in the biomedical science. The name of absorbent chemistry has been derived from the original absorption of all substances by solid-liquid system known as thermal enthalpy change. It is a generic term for the absorption of a solvent by a solid-liquid system. Absorbance Chemistry is a generic term in the Chemistry which can be applied to any fluid system which has high ability to absorb water and other solutes.

A Student Review of New York University

A Student Review of New York University The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Alice is a New York City tutor specializing in Literature tutoring, AP English tutoring, all levels of Spanish tutoring, and more. She graduated from New York University in 2012 with a Bachelors degree in Comparative Literature. Check out her review of her alma mater: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Alice:The NYU campus is as urban as it gets, located in the heart of New York City. All of the dorms are located within walking distance to most of the buildings, and NYU also provides bus service to the further outlying locations. Many students ride bikes, walk, and use the subway to get around the city. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Alice:The professors, advisers, and TAs are very accessible. I am still in touch with several of my professors and look to them as mentors. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Alice:NYU is unique in that it provides many opportunities on and off campus. For students interested in on-campus life, there are a myriad of clubs and organizations, and dorms have strong communities. Dining halls are popular among freshmen, and usually after the first year, students cook for themselves and enjoy the many restaurants in NYC. Many students find jobs and internships in the city and become truly immersed in New York. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Alice:I studied Comparative Literature. The department is relatively small and students received much individualized attention. There was a great deal of support from the faculty and staff, and the university also provided many grant opportunities for students interested in research. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Alice:I made friends through my freshman residence hall and freshman seminars. My best friend in NYC is from my first Writing class at NYU! Greek life is not a big aspect of campus life. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Alice:Many big companies recruit on campus, and the Career Center was greatly helpful and accessible. I easily found jobs through the Career Center while at NYU. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Alice:The library can get a little crowded at finals time, but otherwise it was sparsely populated and my favorite place to write papers. The student union was a great place to relax, study, or hang out between classes (and it also has an amazing view down 5th Ave!). VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Alice:Its NYC! Anything and everything can be found in the city. I loved going to the museums, listening to jazz in the Village, enjoying the parks, trying new kinds of food, and generally exploring the different neighborhoods of the city. I lived off-campus in Brooklyn for my last three semesters and really enjoyed getting to know another borough. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Alice:NYU has a huge student body, yet nevertheless, class size remains very small. My Literature classes were never more than 20 students; usually they were around 10-12 students, and I remember one Literature Seminar with just five students. It was great to have discussions in small classes. Some of the more general classes are much larger I remember Intro to Psychology having over 500 students, and we met in smaller groups once a week with a TA for individualized attention. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Alice: My best memories are of sitting on my advisors couch talking about literature and my thesis. I remember when I learned about her dance career prior to becoming an NYU professor; I realized the photo behind her desk of a ballerina was her! I had so many great conversations with her. Wed start talking about literature and the conversation would often shift to dance, travel, family, New York, and just about anything else. Check out Alices tutoring profile.
